2027 Ram Heavy Duty: What’s New for the Model Year

2027 Ram Heavy Duty: What’s New for the Model Year

A heavy-duty truck earns its keep on job sites, at the boat launch, and behind a loaded trailer. For New Brunswick shoppers who use a truck rather than just drive one, the 2027 Ram Heavy Duty brings a handful of real, usable updates rather than a full redesign. Here is what actually changed, what stuck around, and what it means when you’re picking a truck.

What’s New on the 2027 Ram Heavy Duty

The headline change is on the Ram 3500 side. Regular Cab 8-foot box and Crew Cab 6-foot, 4-inch box trucks with the 6.4-litre HEMI V8 now carry a maximum GVWR of 11,440 lbs (5,189 kg), a gain of 400 lbs (181 kg) over the previous model year. That extra rating goes straight into payload capacity, which matters if you’re loading tools, equipment, or a slide-in camper close to the limit.

Appearance and equipment options also opened up. The Sport Appearance Package and Night Edition Package, previously reserved for the higher Level 1 Plus and Level 2 Plus equipment groups, are now available on the base Level 1 and Level 2 groups. That puts the blacked-out styling within reach of more buyers without forcing an upgrade to a pricier equipment tier.

Off-road-focused trims picked up standalone options that used to be bundled. A Warn electric winch is now available on its own for Rebel and Power Wagon models with the 6.4-litre HEMI V8, without requiring the Level 1 Equipment Group. The Power Wagon also gains a new optional beadlock-capable wheel package, and a Sport Performance hood is now a standalone option on Rebel and Power Wagon, plus Big Horn trucks equipped with the Night Edition or Sport Appearance package.

Laramie trucks gain expanded RamBox availability and new optional body-colour fender flares. HEMI-equipped Heavy Duty trucks also receive a new Symbol of Protest fender badge, with a Satin Black version on Tradesman, Black Express, Warlock, Rebel, Power Wagon, and any truck built with the Night Edition Package. Two new exterior colours, Serrano Green Metallic and Tank Clear-Coat, join the palette with late availability.

  • Ram 3500 HEMI models: GVWR up to 11,440 lbs (5,189 kg), a 400 lb (181 kg) increase
  • Sport Appearance and Night Edition packages now reach Level 1 and Level 2 equipment groups
  • Standalone Warn winch and Sport Performance hood options for Rebel and Power Wagon
  • New beadlock-capable wheel package on Power Wagon, plus two new exterior colours

What Stayed the Same

The powertrain lineup carries over unchanged, and that’s a good thing given how capable it already is. The 6.4-litre HEMI V8 produces 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, and the 6.7-litre Cummins HO Turbo Diesel I-6 makes 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. Both pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Suspension architecture also holds steady. The Ram 2500 continues to offer a five-link coil rear suspension along with an available automatic-leveling rear air suspension, while the Ram 3500 sticks with its Hotchkiss leaf spring rear end and an available supplemental air suspension for heavier loads.

Towing and trailering technology returns as well: a digital rearview mirror with tow mode, trailer reverse steering control, Blind-spot Monitoring with Trailer Tow Detection, heated power convex tow mirrors with power-folding and memory, and TrailerTow Pages for keeping an eye on the trailer. The RamBox cargo management system and dual wireless phone charging are also unchanged.

On the cabin side, the available 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, 10.25-inch passenger screen, and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster remain the tech setup buyers can option into.

What These Changes Mean for New Brunswick Buyers

The gas-versus-diesel decision still shapes the whole truck. The 6.4-litre HEMI V8 carries more payload on both the 2500 and 3500, which suits buyers hauling gear, tools, or a camper more often than pulling a heavy trailer. The Cummins diesel flips that trade: less payload, but towing that climbs as high as 37,020 lbs (16,792 kg) on the 3500, built for regular trailer work.

The 2500-versus-3500 choice comes down to a similar logic. The 2500 rides on a lighter frame with more day-to-day comfort from its coil rear suspension, while the 3500 trades some ride softness for the leaf spring durability and higher ceiling on payload and towing, especially with the new GVWR bump on HEMI-equipped models.

The trim lineup still splits into clear roles. Tradesman anchors the work-focused end. Big Horn, Warlock, and Black Express sit in the value-focused middle, now easier to dress up thanks to the wider Sport Appearance and Night Edition availability. Laramie, Limited, and Longhorn carry the premium equipment and interior finishes, with Laramie’s expanded RamBox as a practical bonus.

Rebel and Power Wagon lead the off-road side, and both now get their winch and hood upgrades without needing a higher equipment group.

For a New Brunswick buyer, that means the equipment updates matter as much as the capability numbers. Getting a winch or a Sport Performance hood on a Rebel or Power Wagon no longer means stepping up a full equipment tier, and the Ram 3500’s payload gain gives HEMI buyers more room before they need to consider the diesel.

Finding the Right 2027 Ram Heavy Duty

The 2027 Ram Heavy Duty keeps its proven HEMI and Cummins powertrains while adding real flexibility: a higher-payload Ram 3500 option, easier access to appearance packages, and standalone winch, hood, and wheel upgrades on the off-road trims.

Visit Connell Chrysler in Woodstock to see how the 2027 Ram Heavy Duty lineup, from Tradesman to Power Wagon, lines up with the towing, payload, or off-road needs of your next project.
